What requirement does HEAL cover for graduation?
- HEAL is a non-profit student-run organization dedicated to touching the lives of others through healthcare and education
- We partner with other nonprofits to provide healthcare to those most in need
- Last year we fundraised over $18,000 to provide free health clinics and advanced medical care referrals to the rural communities of Chiang Mai, Thailand.
Who can apply?
- Our applications are open to current sophomore and junior Nursing students and Doctor of Physical Therapy students ONLY.
- Nursing students must be currently enrolled in or have already passed N202 and N206 to apply for a leadership or traveling member position.
- Having the units to qualify you as a sophomore even if you are in your first year of college DOES NOT qualify you for this study abroad program.
What is the difference between board members and traveling members?
- Leadership Board members: Hold leadership responsibilities within the organization in addition to traveling member responsibilities.
- Traveling Members: Responsible for contributing toward fundraising goals, facilitating transportation of medical supplies to the volunteer destination, and taking part in activities and events related to the organization.
- General Members: Responsible for contributing toward fundraising goals and taking part in activities and events related to the organization.
- ONLY Leadership Board members and Travel members travel to Thailand to provide healthcare to those in need. General members do NOT travel.
When will the application process begin?
- Applications for Leadership Board members will be conducted in February each year. Specific dates are updated every year.
- Applications for General and Traveling members will be conducted in March/ April each year. Specific dates are updated every year.
When is the actual brigade?
- Brigades will take place January of the following year over winter break and lasts approximately 2 weeks.
What requirement does HEAL cover for graduation?
- This study abroad opportunity covers your study abroad UNIT ONLY. The fees that you pay for the program will cover the cost of one unit for the study abroad credit, and you must register for NURS-499 in the Spring semester following the brigade.
- This study abroad opportunity does NOT cover the cultural diversity (B) requirement, unlike HHS 350.
