Thank you for your interest in joining the HEAL Leadership Board.
Applications are closed for the 2020-2021 school year, but keep an eye out for the traveling member application coming out soon!
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Students H.E.A.L.?
HEAL is a non-profit student-run organization dedicated to touching the lives of others through healthcare and education
We partner with other nonprofits to provide healthcare to those most in need
Last year we fundraised over $17,000 to provide free health clinics and advanced medical care referrals to the rural communities of Sangkhlaburi, Thailand.
Who can apply?
Our applications are open to current sophomore and junior nursing students ONLY.
To clarify, you must be currently enrolled in or have already passed N202 and N206 to apply for a leadership or traveling member position.
Having the units to qualify you as a sophomore even if you are in your first year of college DOES NOT qualify you for this study abroad program.
What is the difference between board members and traveling members?
Leadership board members: hold leadership responsibilities within the organization in addition to traveling member responsibilities
Traveling members: responsible for contributing toward fundraising goals, facilitating transportation of medical supplies to the volunteer destination, and taking part in activities and events related to the organization
Both: travel as a part of Students H.E.A.L. to Thailand to provide healthcare to those in need
When will the application process begin, and when is the actual brigade?
Applications for the leadership board will be conducted as follows:
Applications open: February 27th
Applications close: March 5th @ 11:59pm
The new leadership board will be notified of their positions by March 10th.
Traveling member applications will be opened following the new board being chosen. Those dates and times will be communicated following the transition period of the new leadership board.
The next brigade will take place in January of 2021 (over winter break) and lasts approximately 2 weeks
What if I don’t get picked to be a board member?
Unfortunately, only 10 nursing students can be chosen to participate in the leadership board for Students HEAL
If you don’t get chosen to participate as a board member, you are highly encouraged to apply in the next cycle for the traveling member positions!
Approximately 20 students will be chosen in the application process for traveling member positions following the new leadership board election.
Do we have to take a class with this study abroad program, and what requirement does HEAL cover for graduation?
This study abroad opportunity does cover your study abroad unit, but not the cultural diversity unit. The fees that you will have to pay for the program cost will cover the cost of one unit for the study abroad credit, but you will not have to take a subsequent class during the semester like HHS350.
You must, however, take a course on your own that will cover the cultural diversity requirement; unlike HHS 350, this study abroad opportunity does not cover that portion of your graduation requirements, IT ONLY GIVES YOU THE STUDY ABROAD UNIT.
